WILL COTTON’S ART SUNDAE AT ROCKEFELLER CENTER

On March 8, 2025 artist Will Cotton led a free and open-to-the-public art-making workshop for local families. Inspired by the artist’s practice, children had the opportunity to create their own fantastical cake sculptures using acrylic molding paste and to place their work within a larger public art installation.

The workshop coincides with Cotton's site-specific public installation at Rockefeller Center, showcasing the work of the New York-based artist. Renowned for his figurative paintings of confectionary-based assemblages. The site-specific installation at Rockefeller Center brings together Cotton’s paintings of the American cowboy, mythical creatures, and his iconic landscapes of a confectionary utopia. Cotton, renowned for his signature blend of uncanny realism and Americana, transforms Rockefeller Center into a dreamscape which invites viewers to reflect on how temptation and indulgence shape our understanding of reality.

ART SUNDAE is an ongoing public program providing children a hands-on art-making experience led by a contemporary artist. Designed to be accessible and highlight art’s positive impact across all communities, this free program gives children the opportunity to experiment with various media inspired by an artist's practice. The work that is created in a collaboration between the artist and children then becomes a public art installation that remains on view. Art Sundae was started in 2017 by Art Production Fund and Fort Gansevoort.
